A tragic incident occurred near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, as a member of the Army succumbed to a gunshot wound from his own service rifle, according to a statement from a police official.
The deceased, identified as Sepoy Amritpal Singh, had been stationed at a forward post within the Mankote Sector. In the early hours of the day, at approximately 5 am, his comrades were alerted by the sound of a gunshot and rushed to the scene, where they discovered Singh lying in a pool of blood, as confirmed by the official.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that Sepoy Singh lost his life due to a gunshot wound inflicted by his own service rifle, though the nature of this incident remains uncertain. The police official explained that whether this tragedy resulted from an accidental discharge of his firearm or a deliberate act of self-harm is a subject of ongoing investigation.
In light of this somber incident, the authorities have initiated inquest proceedings to meticulously examine the circumstances and gather pertinent information regarding the events leading to Sepoy Amritpal Singh’s untimely demise.
