Samba/Jammu, Sept 26: In a dramatic rescue operation, six labourers were saved on Thursday after a significant soil collapse buried them while they were working on a bridge construction project in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The incident occurred in the Vijaypur area, where the labourers were digging a deep pit for the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway project.

According to officials, a large mass of soil unexpectedly collapsed, trapping the workers beneath. Emergency services were alerted, prompting a rapid response from the district administration, along with specialized teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

The rescue operation began immediately, with rescuers employing heavy machinery and manual labor to free the trapped individuals. After two intense hours of effort, four of the labourers were successfully extricated from the rubble.

Unfortunately, two workers sustained critical injuries during the collapse and were subsequently transported to a hospital in Jammu for urgent medical treatment.

District Commissioner Rajesh Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Samba, Vinay Kumar Sharma, were present at the site, closely supervising the rescue efforts.

As of the latest reports, four of the rescued labourers are in stable condition, while the injured workers are receiving the necessary care. This incident underscores the risks faced by construction workers and the importance of rapid response teams in emergencies.
