Sharad Pawar Criticizes Maharashtra Government Over Women’s Safety and Missing Girls
Mumbai, India – Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar has voiced his concerns and criticisms regarding the Maharashtra government’s approach to issues related to women’s safety and the alarming number of girls reported missing in the state. This marks the second time in a week that Pawar has taken aim at the state’s home department, which falls under the purview of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Alarming Number of Missing Girls
During a press conference in Mumbai, Sharad Pawar brought to attention the startling fact that between January 1 and May 31 of this year, a staggering 19,553 women were reported as “missing” in the state. Pawar accused the government of not taking the law and order situation seriously and raised concerns about the safety and security of women in Maharashtra.
Critique of “Contractual Hiring” in Mumbai Police
Pawar also directed criticism towards the government’s approach to the “contractual hiring” of personnel within the Mumbai police force. He revealed that the state had made the decision to conduct government recruitments on a contractual basis, which he vehemently opposed. The contract period is set at 11 months, leaving uncertainty about the future of these recruited individuals. Pawar questioned the fate of these youths after their contract period expires and emphasized the need for proper training and facilities for those hired as police personnel.
Health Department Concerns
In addition to his criticism of the contractual hiring in the police force, Sharad Pawar also expressed concerns over recent deaths in state-run hospitals. He stressed the necessity of permanent recruitment in the health department, advocating for a more stable and reliable approach to hiring in the crucial healthcare sector.
