Shahid Afridi’s Reminder
In response to concerns raised by Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), regarding security in Pakistan, former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has issued a reminder highlighting Pakistan’s successful hosting of international events in recent years. Afridi’s response came after the Asia Cup 2023, initially scheduled to take place entirely in Pakistan, had nine matches moved to Sri Lanka due to security and economic concerns.

Jay Shah had expressed concerns about security and the economic situation in Pakistan, leading to the decision to co-host the Asia Cup with Sri Lanka.
Afridi’s List of Hosted Events
In his response, Afridi mentioned several international cricket events successfully hosted by Pakistan in the past six years, emphasizing the country’s capability to ensure the safety and success of such events. Some of the notable events Afridi listed include:
- 2017: ICC World XI and Sri Lanka
- 2018: West Indies
- 2020: Bangladesh
- 2021: South Africa
Pakistan’s Readiness for Champions Trophy
Afridi also asserted that Pakistan is prepared to host the Champions Trophy in 2023, emphasizing the country’s commitment to international cricket and its ability to provide a secure and welcoming environment for players and teams.
