Srinagar, July 23, 2024: In response to the ongoing heatwave and numerous requests from parents and stakeholders, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has announced an adjustment in school timings for all Government and Recognized Private Schools up to the Higher Secondary level in the Kashmir Division.
According to the official order, starting immediately, classes will commence from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, teaching and non-teaching staff are required to attend their duties from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. This new schedule will remain in effect until August 10, 2024.
This proactive decision aims to safeguard students from the extreme heat, ensuring their safety and well-being during the current heatwave.
The adjustment in school hours is a preventive measure to reduce the exposure of children to the high temperatures typically experienced later in the day.
The announcement has been met with widespread approval from parents and students alike. Many parents have expressed their relief, noting that the earlier school hours will help their children avoid the worst of the day’s heat.
Students, too, have welcomed the change, appreciating the efforts of the authorities to prioritize their health and comfort.
This move by the DSEK underscores the importance of addressing environmental challenges proactively, particularly those that have direct impacts on the health and daily lives of students.
The temporary shift in school timings is a testament to the department’s commitment to the well-being of its students and staff.
Overall, the adjustment in school hours reflects a thoughtful response to the pressing issue of extreme weather conditions, highlighting the role of educational authorities in ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all.
