SC proposes Permanent Position for Judge in J-k High Court

the Supreme Court Collegium proposed the elevation of Justice Rahul Bharti, who is currently serving as an Additional Judge, to the position of permanent Judge at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The High Court Collegium had earlier, on August 21, 2023, collectively endorsed Justice Rahul Bharti for the permanent Judge role.

In accordance with the Memorandum of Procedure, Supreme Court Judges with knowledge of the affairs of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were consulted to evaluate Justice Rahul Bharti’s suitability for the permanent Judge position. Following the Collegium resolution of October 26, 2017, a Committee of two Judges from the Supreme Court assessed Justice Rahul Bharti’s judgments, classifying them as “Good” and “fairly reasonable.” After a thorough examination of the submitted material, the Collegium, consisting of Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justice B R Gavai, collectively opines that Justice Rahul Bharti, presently an Additional Judge, is well-suited for elevation to the position of permanent Judge.

As a result, the Collegium has decided to recommend the appointment of Justice Rahul Bharti as a permanent Judge at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, thereby filling one of the existing vacancies.
