Kyiv/Moscow, August 10, [VoM News]: Russia-Ukraine War – Looks like it was another busy night for both Ukraine and Russia. The two nations engaged in overnight exchanges of fire, with both sides unfortunately reporting civilian casualties. The conflict seems to be intensifying, with an increase in missile and drone attacks recently.

According to Russian officials, Ukrainian drone strikes killed five civilians and injured 24 people, including a four-year-old boy, in the Belgorod border region. They stated that the strikes also caused damage to 29 apartment buildings, five homes, several administrative buildings, and commercial establishments.

On the Ukrainian side, regional officials announced that Russian missile attacks had hit multiple cities overnight. In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, missiles struck a high-rise apartment building in the Saltivskyi district, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 13 others, reported regional governor Oleh Syniehubov.

In Odesa, the Black Sea port city, eight people were injured after local authorities described the city and its surrounding areas being targeted by “dozens” of Russian missiles and drones.

These recent attacks come as Russia has ramped up its large-scale missile strikes on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Ukraine has been conducting long-range drone attacks targeting Russian military and energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been a vocal advocate to Western allies, particularly the US, for more Patriot air defense systems and interceptor missiles. Kyiv maintains that the US-made Patriot system is its sole effective defense against Russian ballistic missiles.

Zelenskyy has also explored the idea of producing Patriot missile ammunition within Ukraine or gaining approval to utilize Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite network to support deeper strikes against Russian missile launch sites. Concurrently, Ukraine has continued its drone operations, aiming at Russian fuel and logistics infrastructure.

Russian authorities reported that overnight strikes also hit Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, as well as other facilities located deeper within Russia, contributing to disruptions in fuel supplies.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that its overnight strikes targeted Ukrainian drone warehouses in the Kharkiv region, fuel depots, and military supply facilities in the Odesa port area.

They also stated that their air defense systems intercepted 153 Ukrainian drones overnight, with several of them being shot down over Russian-occupied Crimea and the Black Sea and Azov Sea regions.

In the Russian port city of Novorossiysk, Mayor Andrey Kravchenko reported that drone debris had fallen on two enterprises and a private residence. Later, regional officials updated that one person was injured, two homes were damaged, and windows of an apartment building were shattered.

Novorossiysk is home to a significant fuel export terminal that connects Kazakhstan’s oil fields to global markets, and it has been targeted by Ukrainian drone attacks in the past.

These latest exchanges of fire highlight the ongoing escalation in the conflict that has been raging for over four years, with both countries reporting civilian casualties and damage to critical infrastructure.
