Resurgence in Rural Consumer Goods Business Signals Positive Trend
Dabur India Ltd CEO, Mohit Malhotra, recently commented on the resurgence of the rural consumer goods business. According to Malhotra, rural areas faced challenges around 6 to 8 months ago, with consistently negative volume growth. However, recent improvements can be attributed to reduced inflation and softer prices, mitigating the impact of price increases. Although unseasonal rains in June and July briefly affected rural consumption, there’s an overall positive growth trend.
Over the past six months, rural growth has been observed, with rural business volume showing a pickup of around 7.5 percent compared to 5.5 percent in previous months. This trend indicates a narrowing gap between urban and rural consumption, boding well for the rural consumer goods market. Malhotra expects this trend to continue, highlighting rural consumption as a key performance indicator for the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry.
