“Resolute Countermeasures in Our Cards,” Says China If US Imposes Tariffs
China on Wednesday condemned the blockade by the United States around Iranian ports and labelled the attempt as dangerous and irresponsible.
As the United States has threatened to sink any boat making entry or exit, and impose new tariffs if Beijing has supplied or intends to supply weapons to Iran, China said it would impose countermeasures.
A day earlier, CNN reported that China was preparing a new air defence system for Iran within the next few weeks.
Similarly, The New York Times also reported that Beijing might have already sent a shipment of shoulder-fired missiles.
After the stories went viral, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun denied those reports and called them false and fabricated.
He added that if the United States used additional tariffs as a measure to counter China, it would definitely take resolute countermeasures.
The move to block Iranian ports by the United States is being seen as a step to counter China, whereas China calls this a dangerous and irresponsible move, as China is a key economic partner of Iran.
