Ravi-Shastri Fires-Back Strongly Against Hasan-Raza’s Controversial Claims
The ongoing 2023 Cricket World Cup has not been without its share of drama, and one of the latest controversies involves former Pakistan player Hasan Raza making serious allegations against Team India. Raza’s claims suggest that Indian pacers are enjoying preferential treatment, receiving specially crafted cricket balls from either the ICC or BCCI. According to him, these balls are designed to assist bowlers in achieving swing and seam, even on pitches that are traditionally more favorable to batsmen.
Raza’s bombshell accusations surfaced following India’s dominant victory over Sri Lanka by a staggering 302 runs in Mumbai. The spectacular performance of Indian pacers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, especially Shami’s fifer, became a focal point. Shami also etched his name in history by becoming India’s all-time highest wicket-taker in ODI World Cup history, boasting 47 dismissals in just 14 games. Additionally, Raza accused India of manipulating the DRS technology to their advantage.

Cricket Fraternity’s Disapproval and Ravi Shastri’s Strong Retort
Unsurprisingly, Raza’s allegations have not been well-received within the cricket fraternity. Even Pakistan legend Wasim Akram criticized Raza’s claims. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri, known for his bold and candid opinions, also joined the chorus of disapproval during an appearance on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast with Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan.
Shastri dismissed Raza’s allegations emphatically, stating, “What he is talking is a whole load of cock and bull. Next, he will come and say when Jadeja bowls, it goes at certain revolutions, and when Kuldeep comes on the other side, there’s another piece of technology on the other side of the ball that makes the ball go the other way. It’s all crap.
India’s Unbeaten Streak and Semifinal Showdown
Despite the controversies, Team India stands tall as the only unbeaten team in the tournament, having triumphed in all nine of their league fixtures. As they gear up for the semifinal clash against New Zealand in Mumbai, the stakes are high. The last time these two teams met in a World Cup semifinal was in 2019, with New Zealand emerging victorious. India finished the league stage at the top of the table with 18 points from nine games, setting the stage for a riveting encounter against a formidable New Zealand side that secured the fourth spot with 14 points.
Semifinal Lineup and Anticipation for Epic Clashes
In the other semifinal, South Africa, occupying the second spot, will face off against third-placed Australia. The cricketing world is abuzz with anticipation as the four cricketing giants prepare for epic clashes that will ultimately determine who will battle for the coveted 2023 Cricket World Cup title.
