Rajya Sabha Cash Row: High-Level Inquiry Ordered, CCTV Footage Under Review

Rajya Sabha Cash Row: A high-level committee, comprising officials from security agencies, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, and senior MPs, has been constituted following the discovery of a cash bundle on the seat of Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi in the Rajya Sabha.

CCTV footage is being reviewed, and security checks are underway. The surprising discovery was made during an anti-sabotage check, where a bundle of cash amounting to ₹50,000 was found. The bundle, initially placed at the ‘lost and found’ counter, afterwhich the Rajya Sabha Chairman was informed.

Security officials conduct daily anti-sabotage checks, and any items left behind by representatives are deposited at the ‘lost and found’ counter of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

Opinion of Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi

Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi clarified his stance on the incident in an online post:

“Heard of it for the first time now. Never heard of it till now! I carry one ₹500 note when I go to RS. First time hearing of it. I reached inside the house at 12:57 PM yesterday, and the house rose at 1 PM. Then I sat in the canteen till 1:30 PM with Shri Ayodhya Rami Reddy. After that, I left Parliament!”

Earlier in the day, Rajya Sabha Chairman Mr. Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the House about the incident:

“A cash bundle amounting to ₹50,000 was found after the House was adjourned yesterday.”

The key question remains: How did the cash bundle end up there?

The probe has received support from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi and the Congress Party. They emphasized the importance of the investigation, noting that the Rajya Sabha is monitored 24×7 by CCTV.

“Today it’s money; tomorrow, it could be something else.”
