The Rajkot International Airport in Gujarat has officially commenced flight operations with the arrival of its first flight from Indore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport on July 27th this year.
Capacity Expansion Plans
Initially designed to accommodate 500 passengers during peak hours, the airport has ambitious plans to increase its capacity to serve 2,800 passengers during peak hours. The annual passenger handling capacity is projected to reach 35 lakh (3.5 million) passengers.
Enhancing Connectivity in Western Gujarat
The Rajkot International Airport is the second international airport in the state of Gujarat, serving the western part of the region. It provides direct connectivity for international travelers visiting Rajkot and the surrounding areas of Saurashtra. The facility is expected to have a positive impact on trade, tourism, education, and both heavy and small-scale industries in the region.
Advanced Infrastructure
The airport features a 3,040-meter-long runway equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS) to facilitate 24/7 operations. Additionally, the airport has the capability to park 14 aircraft, making it well-prepared to accommodate a growing number of flights.
