In a recent government order, the administration of Jammu and Kashmir has appointed Rahul Sharma, an IAS officer, as the new Additional Chief Electoral Officer for the region.
The official communication, which has been confirmed by the Kashmir Bulletin (KB), indicates that Sharma, who is presently serving as a Member of the Special Tribunal in Jammu and Kashmir, will take on his new responsibilities immediately.
The order, issued with the approval of the Election Commission of India, emphasizes the swift transition into this role.
Sharma, who is part of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre of 2013, is expected to bring his administrative expertise to the position, ensuring the smooth conduct of electoral processes in the region.
The appointment is seen as a strategic move by the Jammu and Kashmir government, aimed at strengthening the electoral machinery in the Union Territory.

The order further states, “In pursuance of the approval conveyed by the Election Commission, Mr. Rahul Sharma, IAS (AGMUT:2013), Member, Special Tribunal, J&K is hereby appointed as Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect. By Order of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.”
This change in the electoral administration is anticipated to play a key role in the region’s governance and election-related activities, marking an important step in the ongoing efforts to maintain transparency and efficiency in the electoral processes of Jammu and Kashmir.
