Rahul Gandhi Slams BJP’s Electoral Bond Scheme
Electoral Bond Scheme:Undermining Autonomy of Sovereign Institutions
Adding to the growing dissent against the BJP-led Centre, Rahul Gandhi criticized the electoral bond scheme, labeling it as the “biggest extortion racket in the world.” Speaking during a press conference, Rahul emphasized the loss of autonomy of key institutions like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Election Commission of India, accusing them of being wielded as tools by the BJP and RSS to target opposition figures.
“The sovereign institutions of the country, be it the ED, the Election Commission of India or the CBI, are no longer autonomous bodies but are weapons in the hands of the BJP and RSS,” Rahul stated. He further asserted that once the BJP government is replaced, these agencies will face consequences to prevent the recurrence of such alleged harassment of opposition leaders.
Electoral Bond Scheme:Destruction of Institutional Framework
Rahul Gandhi didn’t hold back in his criticism of the BJP, accusing the ruling party of systematically dismantling the institutional framework of the country. He highlighted the misuse of institutions like the CBI, ED, and Income Tax Department to coerce major corporations for political and electoral funding purposes.
“The BJP has shackled and destroyed the institutional framework of the country,” Rahul lamented. He labeled this as the “single biggest anti-national activity under this government,” indicating the severe erosion of democratic norms and practices.
Describing the electoral bond scheme as Prime Minister Modi’s brainchild, Rahul Gandhi expressed skepticism about its intended purpose. He argued that instead of cleansing politics, the scheme has facilitated the flow of unaccounted money into political coffers, ultimately undermining the democratic process.
Responding to media inquiries, Rahul reiterated his stance, presenting the alleged misuse of electoral bonds as factual evidence rather than mere allegations. He hinted at a correlation between donations to the BJP and subsequent legal actions against donating companies by investigative agencies.
Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed Rahul’s sentiments, holding PM Modi accountable for benefiting from the electoral bond scheme at the expense of democratic integrity.
