Emergency
A thought-provoking biopic arrives in cinemas this week, spotlighting one of the most controversial and significant periods in contemporary Indian history. Set in 1975, the story takes us back to a time of immense political and social upheaval. It focuses on then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, one of India’s most influential and controversial leaders, as she steers through the 21-month Emergency—a phase often remembered as one of the darkest in the country’s history.
Directed by Kangana Ranaut, who also plays the role of Mrs. Gandhi, the film brings out the leader’s personal and political struggles. It shows her dealing with widespread criticism, growing dissent, and the heavy consequences of her decisions. The movie also highlights the dramatic events of the Emergency—authoritarian policies, clashes between the government and opposition, and the defiance of leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan, portrayed by Anupam Kher.
As chaos unfolds and Mrs Gandhi fights to hold onto power, the film captures its strain on democracy and its people. It doesn’t just revisit history but digs into the cost of ambition and the resilience of those who stood up to injustice. It is a gripping portrayal of power, resistance, and the spirit of a nation in its darkest days. Its strong storytelling and relevant themes make it a film worth watching in theatres.

Azaad
Set in 1920, Azaad brings a moving story of love, courage, and perseverance to the screen. At its heart is a young boy’s emotional journey to find his horse, Azaad, who gets lost amidst the chaos of a battle. All of this happens against the backdrop of India’s early struggle for freedom.
Starring Ajay Devgn, the film depicts rebellion and turmoil while exploring the unwavering bond between a family and their loyal animal companion. It’s a tale that blends action, drama, and raw emotions in a way that feels both personal and powerful.
Directed by Abhishek Kapoor (behind hits like Kai Po Che, Kedarnath, and Rock On!!), known for his knack for telling stories that tug at the heartstrings, he brings together an ensemble cast including Devgn in a central role, Diana Penty, Piyush Mishra, and two fresh talents—Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani—who make their on-screen debut.
As the boy searches for Azaad, the story takes a deeper meaning. What starts as a mission to reunite with his beloved horse becomes a story about finding courage, discovering oneself, and standing up against the odds. With its heart-pounding action, touching drama, and genuine emotion, Azaad is the kind of film that deserves a seat at the theatres.
Wolf Man
In a chilling reimagining of the 1941 classic Wolf Man, this horror reboot plunges into a terrifying night of survival and transformation. The story begins in a remote farmhouse with a family under siege from an unseen animal lurking in the darkness. As fear grips the household, the father’s mysterious transformation into something monstrous reveals that the true threat may not lie outside but within their very walls. The family faces a horrifying dilemma: can they survive the night, or will the terror within destroy them before the danger outside gets to them?
The movie is produced by Blumhouse (the studio behind modern horror hits like Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge, Split, M3GAN, and The Black Phone) and helmed by Leigh Whannell, the visionary director behind The Invisible Man and co-creator of Saw and Insidious franchises. Known for their ability to craft unforgettable scares, the makers promise a gripping mix of psychological tension and visceral horror and bring their signature intensity to this spine-chilling tale.
As the night unravels, Wolf Man explores the primal fears of survival and the fragility of trust within a family. With its atmospheric setting, masterful direction, and an unrelenting sense of dread, this nostalgic reboot delivers a terrifyingly fresh take on a timeless classic, making it a must-watch for horror fans.

A Real Pain
A Real Pain is a moving yet unexpectedly funny story about family, loss, and self-discovery, written, directed by, and starring Jesse Eisenberg. The film follows two Jewish-American cousins who reunite for a trip to Poland after years of distance to honour their late grandmother. What starts as a heartfelt tribute quickly turns into a deeper journey as they confront family history and old wounds against the backdrop of their shared past.
With multiple Golden Globe nominations, Eisenberg has received praise for his ability to balance serious themes with moments of humour that feel natural and relatable. Kieran Culkin stands out in his role, capturing both the pain of loss and the struggles of complicated relationships with honesty and charm. The film’s emotional weight and lighter moments make it engaging without feeling overwhelming.
One of the most powerful aspects of A Real Pain is its historical connection. It’s the first narrative film to be allowed to shoot at a real concentration camp, giving the story an added layer of authenticity and meaning. The music, featuring piano pieces by Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin, adds a haunting beauty that resonates throughout the film.
At its core, it is a feel good story about reconciliation—between family members, with history, or even within yourself. By weaving together moments of laughter and raw emotion, A Real Pain offers a thoughtful reflection on how we deal with loss, remember those who’ve passed, and move forward with hope.
Sankranthiki Vasthunam
Gear up for a delightful blend of comedy, romance, and action with Sankranthiki Vasthunam, directed by Anil Ravipudi. Known for his streak of seven consecutive blockbusters, including Bhagavanth Kesari (2023), Sarileru Neekevvaru (2020), and F2: Fun and Frustration (2019), Ravipudi reunites with Venkatesh Daggubati after their successful collaboration on F3: Fun and Frustration (2022).
The story follows YD Raju (Venkatesh), a retired IPS officer caught in a hilarious and chaotic situation when his ex-girlfriend seeks his help to solve a high-profile kidnapping case. As if that’s not enough, Raju’s loyal but suspicious wife decides to join them, adding fuel to the comedic chaos. The crime triangle—also starring Meenakshi Chaudhary and Aishwarya Rajesh—is packed with comedic clashes and dramatic twists, making it a wholesome family entertainer.
With no flops to his name, Ravipudi crafts another engaging entertainer, already creating a buzz as potentially the biggest opener of Venkatesh’s illustrious career. Comedy and family entertainers have always been Venkatesh’s strong suit, and this movie perfectly plays to his strengths. It is a narrative full of twists and promises a rollercoaster ride of laughter and emotions that families won’t want to miss this Sankranti.
Kadhalikka Neramillai
A perfect mix of love, laughter, and chaos, Kadhalikka Neramillai is a refreshing take on relationships and romance. Directed and written by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, the film tells the story of Siddarth, a man who believes marriage is a disaster and having kids is an even bigger one. On the other hand, Shriya is trying to navigate her modern ideas of love and life. When Siddarth falls for his boss’s daughter, things take a hilarious turn as he convinces his friend to pretend to be his father to win her family’s approval.

The film dives into the question of whether the idea of a “perfect life” with love, marriage, and family still holds today. Despite their differences, Siddarth and Shriya’s journey shows how love sneaks up on you when you least expect it.
With Jayam Ravi, Nithya Menen, Yogi Babu, and Vijay Rai bringing the characters to life, and a blockbuster music album by AR Rahman, Kadhalikka Neramillai promises to be a heartwarming entertainer for Pongal.
Satya: The Return of the Crime Classic to Theatres
Satya (1998) is back on the big screen, giving fans a chance to experience the cult film with an ardent fan base that changed Bollywood’s take on crime dramas.
