Jammu and Kashmir Police are delving into the disturbing incident in Topi Pir village that resulted in three deaths, seeking answers and justice for the affected families, as reported by The Indian Express. The incident, which occurred on December 22, 2023, has prompted a murder case, and the authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of the truth.
Seeking Accountability: Witnesses’ Testimonies Crucial in the Inquiry
The newspaper reveals that the Jammu and Kashmir Police have reached out to the Army, urging them to provide medical records for the five witnesses from Topi Pir village—Riaz (25), Farooq (19), Israel (20), Jameel (18), and Irfan (18). These individuals, having observed the tragic events unfold, are essential to the investigation and are required to provide statements before a judicial magistrate.
The incident transpired on Mughal Road between Dehra Ki Gali and Bufliaz, resulting in the detention of eight civilians from Topa Pir and five from Thanamandi. Tragically, three individuals from Topi Pir—Shabir Ahmed, Safeer Ahmed, and Mohammad Showkat—lost their lives due to injuries sustained during the alleged torture.
Government Response and Ministerial Visit: Calls for Justice Echo as Leaders Address the Tragedy
The incident’s severity prompted a visit from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Pande on December 27. Their presence aimed to connect with the affected residents, and they also visited the injured in the hospital. Minister Singh stressed the paramount duty of defending the nation, urging troops to win the hearts of their fellow countrymen. During the visit, compensation was provided to the discharged individuals from Thanamandi, and the families of the deceased received support from both the J&K administration and the Army, highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing the aftermath of this tragic event.
