Two Groups Clash Over Alleged Political Enmity
Tension erupted in Patapur, under Dharmasala police limits in Jajpur district, as two groups clashed over alleged political enmity. At least four individuals from both groups sustained injuries in the clash and were admitted to the local hospital. Two separate cases have been registered against the involved parties, but no arrests have been made yet.
The clash reportedly stemmed from an incident in which the husband of Patapur sarpanch Sandhyarani Nayak, Dusashan Nayak, and his brother Arjun Nayak allegedly kidnapped and assaulted Prabhat Das, the brother of a ward member of the panchayat. An FIR was filed by the victim’s family, but the police did not take action, leading to grievances among Das’s family and supporters.
The clash occurred when supporters of Das’s family learned that Dusashan Nayak was at the panchayat office and locked it from outside. The situation escalated, resulting in a clash between the two groups using lathis and stones. Four individuals from both groups sustained injuries.
Police, along with senior officers, intervened to bring the situation under control. Dusashan Nayak was rescued from the panchayat office and brought to the police station. The clash was fueled by past political enmity between the two groups.
Patapur sarpanch Sandhyarani Nayak had been elected with support from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but later joined the BJD without consulting her supporters. This political move contributed to the animosity between the two groups.
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Jajpur, Sanjaya Kumar Pattnaik, stated that an investigation has been launched into the incident. Security measures have been put in place to prevent any further escalation of the situation.
