Environmental samples collected from various districts in Pakistan have tested positive for wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1), raising concerns about the virus’s continued presence. The samples, collected from 19 districts in January, revealed positive cases in locations such as Quetta, Karachi, Peshawar, Sukkur, Hyderabad, and more. The detections bring the total number of positive environmental samples reported in 2024 to 28, with 126 in 2023.
