A tragic incident unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday, as a police officer lost his life due to the accidental discharge of his service rifle. The incident took place near the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Surankote.
The deceased officer, identified as Mohd Asif, was a resident of Surankote and served as the personal security officer to District Development Council (DDC) member Sohail Malik.
According to officials, the mishap occurred unexpectedly while Asif was on duty. The exact circumstances leading to the discharge of his weapon remain unclear, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
The sound of the rifle going off attracted the attention of nearby individuals, who rushed to the scene only to find the officer gravely injured.
Despite efforts to save him, Asif succumbed to his injuries at the site of the incident. His body was subsequently transported to a local medical facility, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
