Police Arrest Bootlegger in Samba, Seize 123 Bottles of Illicit Liquor

Samba, September 15: In an ongoing crackdown against illegal alcohol sales in the Samba district, police successfully apprehended a bootlegger and seized 123 bottles of illicit liquor.
The bottles, in varying sizes of 750 ml and 650 ml, were confiscated during a vehicle inspection carried out by officials from Police Station Vijaypur.
The police team, led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Vijaypur Police Station, was conducting a routine vehicle check at Main Chowk, Vijaypur. During the inspection, a Maruti Brezza vehicle bearing the registration number JK02CF-8037, traveling from the Samba side, was intercepted for further examination.
Upon checking the vehicle, the officers discovered a total of 123 bottles of illegal liquor – 70 bottles of 750 ml and 53 bottles of 650 ml.
The accused, identified as Abhijot Choudhary, son of Labha Ram and a resident of Nandpur, tehsil Ramgarh, district Samba, was immediately taken into custody.
In response to the incident, a case has been registered under FIR No. 126/2024 at Police Station Vijaypur. The accused faces charges under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act for possession and distribution of illicit liquor.
The police have initiated an investigation into the case, and further developments are expected as they continue their efforts to combat illegal liquor sales in the district.
The drive against such illegal activities aims to curb the distribution of unlicensed alcohol in the region.
