PNGRB Initiates Bidding for Jammu-Srinagar Gas Pipeline

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has launched the bidding process for the construction of a 325-kilometer-long natural gas pipeline from Jammu to Srinagar. Bids were invited on January 12, 2023, for the project that aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility to natural gas in the region.

Development Plans for Jammu-Srinagar Gas Pipeline

The PNGRB’s proposal involves laying, building, operating, or expanding the Jammu-Srinagar natural gas pipeline with an initial system capacity of at least 2.0 MMSCMD (Million Metric Standard Cubic Meters per Day), including common carrier capacity. The pipeline is expected to originate from the termination point of GAIL (India) Limited’s Gurdaspur-Jammu Natural Gas Pipeline.

Budget Allocation and Project Scope

The Union Budget 2022-23 earmarked funds for the development of the Jammu-Srinagar gas pipeline project. The pipeline is envisioned to play a crucial role in catering to the energy needs of the region. As part of the development plan, spur-lines will be provided by the authorized entity en-route the pipeline, accommodating customer requirements.
