PM Modi Applauds ISRO’s Technological Milestone with Chandrayaan-3’s Propulsion Module

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) for achieving a significant technological milestone in space exploration. The successful detour of Chandrayaan-3’s Propulsion Module from the Moon’s orbit to Earth’s orbit was celebrated by the Prime Minister. In a response to ISRO’s announcement on X, PM Modi expressed his congratulations and acknowledged the achievement as a step forward in India’s ambitious space endeavors, including the goal of sending an Indian to the Moon by 2040.

“Congratulations @isro. Another technology milestone achieved in our future space endeavors, including our goal to send an Indian to the Moon by 2040,” tweeted PM Modi.

ISRO’s Unique Experiment: Chandrayaan-3’s Propulsion Module Takes Earthward Detour

ISRO shared details of the unique experiment involving Chandrayaan-3’s Propulsion Module, comparing it to the hop experiment conducted on the Vikram Lander. The Propulsion Module successfully transitioned from an orbit around the Moon to an orbit around Earth. The maneuver, comprising an orbit-raising and a Trans-Earth injection maneuver, strategically placed the Propulsion Module in an Earth-bound orbit.

“Chandrayaan-3 Mission: Ch-3’s Propulsion Module (PM) takes a successful detour! In another unique experiment, the PM is brought from Lunar orbit to Earth’s orbit. An orbit-raising manoeuvre and a Trans-Earth injection manoeuvre placed PM in an Earth-bound orbit,” announced ISRO on X.

Chandrayaan-3’s Initial Success and Mission Completion

Launched on July 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3 aimed to demonstrate a soft landing near the lunar south polar region and conduct experiments using the instruments on Vikram and Pragyaan. The historic touchdown of Vikram Lander on the Moon on August 23 marked a significant achievement. The scientific instruments on Lander and Rover operated continuously for one lunar day, successfully fulfilling the mission objectives of Chandrayaan-3.
