PIA Halts Flights through Iranian Airspace after Missile Attack on Israel
Key Highlights:
- PIA halts all flights through Iranian airspace after Iran’s missile attack on Israel.
- Flight operations are being restructured to avoid potential risks.
- Routes to Canada, Turkey, UAE, and Gulf states affected.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced late Tuesday that it has suspended all flights from using Iranian airspace following Iran’s missile attack on Israel. This precautionary measure comes as tensions in the region escalate, with the airline prioritizing the safety of its passengers and crew.
In a statement, PIA spokesperson Athar Awan confirmed the decision, explaining that the airline has issued directives to all its captains and flight operations to avoid Iranian airspace until further notice.
“The plans of all flights are being restructured to avoid using Iranian airspace,” Awan stated, emphasizing that the situation will be closely monitored, and Iranian routes will only be reinstated once there is clarity on the evolving conflict.
PIA typically utilizes two key flight corridors through Iranian airspace: the northern corridor, used for flights to Canada and Turkey, and the southern corridor, which serves flights to the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
The temporary suspension of these routes could lead to delays and adjustments as the airline navigates alternative paths to its international destinations.
The decision to stop using Iranian airspace highlights the unpredictable nature of air travel in conflict zones. As regional instability persists, airlines like PIA must remain vigilant to safeguard operations and ensure the well-being of their passengers.
The suspension of Iranian airspace use will continue until the situation stabilizes, and PIA urges passengers to stay updated for any further changes to their flight schedules.
