The legislation, introduced by Waheed ur Rehman Para in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, proposes separate divisional status for the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal region, along with the formation of new districts.

Addressing a press interaction, PDP Additional General Secretary Sheikh Nasir said the proposal reflects a long-standing public demand rooted in administrative difficulties rather than political motives. He highlighted that challenging terrain and limited connectivity continue to restrict access to basic services in remote areas.

As per the proposal, Doda is being considered as the headquarters of the proposed Chenab Valley division, while Bhaderwah could be granted district status and Thathri may be developed as a separate hill district.

Meanwhile, in Doda, PDP’s Chenab Valley unit formally welcomed the bill during a press conference held at Dak Bungalow. Nasir, accompanied by District President Mansoor Bhutt and other senior leaders, urged parties including the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference to extend support, asserting that the demand has existed for years and is not politically driven.

He maintained that past administrative reorganisations have improved governance and accessibility, and called for a broader consensus when the Assembly resumes proceedings on March 27.
