Palestinian President Meets UNRWA Chief Amid Refugee Concerns
Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority (PA), held discussions with Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, West Bank. Abbas expressed concern over what he perceives as Israel’s campaign to dismantle UNRWA, emphasizing the agency’s crucial role in addressing the issue of Palestinian refugees in accordance with UN resolutions.
Rejection of Israel’s Alleged Campaign
President Abbas rejected Israel’s purported efforts to dismantle UNRWA, suggesting that such actions aim to eliminate the Palestinian refugee issue. He underscored the importance of UNRWA’s services in line with UN resolutions, as reported by the news agency Wafa.

Emphasis on Gaza and Humanitarian Aid
During the meeting, Abbas emphasized the need to halt Israel’s actions in Gaza and called for the safe return of displaced individuals to their homes. He advocated for the establishment of urgent humanitarian corridors, providing essential supplies such as medical aid, water, electricity, and fuel.
The discussions highlight ongoing concerns about the plight of Palestinian refugees and the broader humanitarian situation, with President Abbas reaffirming the significance of UNRWA’s role in addressing these challenges.
