Legendary Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar expressed his views during a virtual press conference, organized by Star Sports, regarding Pakistan’s prospects in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, set to commence on October 5. Akhtar believes that Pakistan is entering the tournament as one of the favorites, citing their strong bowling unit and improved batting line-up.
Missing Bowling All-Rounder
While acknowledging that Pakistan is missing a bowling all-rounder in their squad, Akhtar emphasized that their strong pace battery and spinners, coupled with a confident batting unit, make them a formidable team.
Favorable Conditions for Subcontinent Teams
Akhtar also highlighted that playing in the subcontinent, especially in India, is a challenging task for any team. Beating Pakistan in India is considered close to impossible due to the formidable pace battery possessed by both teams.
Strength in Batting
Akhtar noted that Pakistan’s batting unit, which used to be fragile in the past, now appears settled and composed. They have shown the ability to chase down scores with confidence, and their improved batting performance adds to their strengths.
Upcoming Challenge Against India
Pakistan has reached the Super Four stage in the Asia Cup, and their next match against arch-rivals India is scheduled for September 10 in Colombo. The clash between India and Pakistan is highly anticipated and will be closely watched by cricket fans around the world.
