Paal Bjornestad – Norwegian Ambassador to Iran Summoned by Iran Starlink Operations

TEHRAN, October 5, 2026 [VoM News]: The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Norway’s ambassador to Tehran in a bid to protest against Oslo’s inaction regarding what Iran called the “unauthorized” activities of Starlink satellite internet in Iran, Iranian state media reported.

The summoning of Norwegian Ambassador to Iran, Paal Bjornestad, was made by Mohammad Hassannejad Pirkoohi, a director general from Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Press TV said.

According to Press TV, during the meeting, the Iranian official criticized Oslo for not taking actions to stop “unauthorized” activities of Starlink, operated by SpaceX owned by Elon Musk.

Iran claimed that Norway, as the country responsible for the satellite internet network registration at the International Telecommunication Union, should have taken steps to prevent the unauthorized transmissions in Iran.

The Iranian diplomat quoted several decisions of ITU’s Radio Regulations Board, arguing that Norway should have acted upon those decisions to stop unauthorised Starlink transmissions inside the borders of Iran.

Iran accused Oslo of inaction despite receiving repeated requests from Tehran regarding Starlink internet.

Starlink is an internet service offered to users through a satellite internet network in space and is deployed in territories where conventional internet is limited.

The latest diplomatic tension came at a time when tensions among Iran, the United States, and Israel reached a new height with access to communication technologies being added to the list of disagreements.
