Operation Ajay Launched to Facilitate the Return of Indians from Israel Amid Conflict
India has initiated “Operation Ajay” to facilitate the safe return of its citizens from Israel in light of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. There are approximately 18,000 Indians residing in Israel. Special charter flights and arrangements are being put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of these nationals abroad. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar announced this operation in a post on X.
The first group of Indian citizens who had registered for return has been notified, and they are scheduled to board the first special flight to India. The Indian Embassy in Israel has communicated with these individuals via email, and subsequent flights will be organized for other registered individuals.
Israel’s Escalating Conflict with Hamas
Israel has formed an emergency government to manage the ongoing conflict with Hamas. The conflict intensified after Hamas fighters killed civilians in Israel, prompting a significant Israeli response. Thousands of casualties have been reported over the past five days. Israel has also mobilized its military forces near the Gaza Strip, potentially preparing for a ground invasion.
Hamas took hostages, including citizens from various countries, further escalating the situation. The threat of a multi-front war emerged as Israel engaged in shelling exchanges with Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group backed by Iran, on its northern border with Lebanon. Additionally, Israel exchanged fire with militants in Syria after munitions were fired towards the Golan Heights.
The situation in the region remains tense and continues to evolve.
