OnePlus 12 Review: Flagship Excellence with Compromises – A Closer Look at Price, Features, and Design
The OnePlus 12, a staple flagship from the brand, has consistently adhered to a straightforward approach, focusing on perfecting the fundamentals over the years. Positioned as the go-to choice for many OnePlus enthusiasts, especially in comparison to the pricier OnePlus Open, the OnePlus 12 introduces a notable departure from previous models by seemingly avoiding visible compromises. Boasting features such as a highly capable camera system akin to the OnePlus Open, an IP rating, and even wireless charging, the device appears to cover all bases. However, one conspicuous omission is the absence of AI-related functionalities, setting it apart from competitors like Google’s Pixel 8 series and Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series, both equipped with user-facing and entertaining generative AI software features. Apple is also anticipated to unveil various generative AI capabilities with the release of iOS 18.
In a smartphone landscape that has seen stagnation over time, the question arises: does the lack of AI-enabled features significantly impact the OnePlus 12’s appeal, or has the device compensated adequately for this absence? Let’s delve into the OnePlus 12 review to find out.
OnePlus 12 Review: Price in India Unlike its pricier counterpart, the OnePlus Open, the OnePlus 12 is offered in two variants. The visible increase in its price tag, starting from Rs. 56,999, is justified by the base variant now providing 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, priced at Rs. 64,999. The second variant, featuring 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, is competitively priced at Rs. 69,999, considering the robust hardware it offers.
The OnePlus 12 is available in two distinct colors – Flowy Emerald and Silky Black. For this review, we received the Flowy Emerald finish of the 512GB variant. The package includes a soft TPU case, a Type-A to Type-C charging cable, and an impressive 100W charger, making it a comprehensive offering compared to the Samsung Galaxy S24, which only provides a charging cable in the box.
OnePlus 12 Review: Design Remaining true to its design principles and material choices, the OnePlus 12 maintains continuity with its roots. In contrast to the OnePlus Open, which represented a deviation in design, the OnePlus 12 builds upon significant changes introduced by the OnePlus 10 Pro. The distinctive gas stove-like layout from the OnePlus 10 Pro, initially featuring four camera cutouts, evolved into a circular module with rounded corners, seamlessly integrated into the raised glass rear panel of the OnePlus 11.
