Omar Urges ECI Action on NC Workers’ Detention Complaint
National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday asked the Election Commission of India to take note of the complaint submitted by his party against the detention of its workers and activists ahead of the Srinagar Lok Sabha elections held on May 13.
Omar while speaking to reporters in Baramulla said that his party had submitted written complaint to the ECI mentioning in detail the names of workers and activists detained by the police ahead of the polling in Srinagar and has even submitted the names of the police stations where the workers have been kept. “ECI cannot remain silent on our complaint. It has to act against those who are involved and it has to act without delay,” Omar said.
Addressing people during the road shows, Omar lamented the pervasive sense of “unease gripping Kashmir”, emphasizing the concerted efforts to “subjugate its populace both economically and politically”. “We are facing a multitude of torments. Nothing is normal here. People are perturbed and petrified and there are elements who paint the wrong picture of this place claiming that everything here is hunky-dory. Nothing is normal here. In each and every aspect we have been pushed into the corner. We are number one in the entire country in unemployment, youth are getting involved in drugs. It is important to raise our voice and use the ballot. I just want one chance to represent you,” Omar said in his address.
Responding to queries regarding the National Conference’s prospects in the ongoing polls, Omar exuded confidence in his party’s success across all three contested seats. Amidst speculation surrounding the impact of incarcerated candidate Er Rashid on the electoral dynamics in North Kashmir, OMAR refrained from commenting directly.(KNO)
