Responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks in Parliament, Abdullah highlighted the discontent among the people of the region regarding the revocation of the special status.

He expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the decisions made on August 5, 2019, had not resonated well with the people in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. Abdullah predicted that this discontent would manifest in the forthcoming assembly elections.

Delay in Elections and Concerns for Jammu and Kashmir’s Future

The delay in holding Assembly elections in the Union territory was criticized by Abdullah, who argued that it was leading Jammu and Kashmir towards a destructive path. He expressed concern over the denial of the right to vote since 2014, labeling the situation as a peculiar kind of fixed match. The political leader highlighted the need for resolving the Election Commission-government consultation deadlock.
