NTA Announces Dates for CUET-UG Amidst Lok Sabha Election Concerns
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduates (CUET-UG) between May 15 and 31, as announced by University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman, Mamidala K Jagadesh, on Sunday. However, the datesheet for the examination will be finalized after March 26.
Addressing Concerns Over Exam Dates
UGC chairman Mamidala K Jagadesh addressed concerns about the CUET-UG exam coinciding with Lok Sabha elections on May 20 and 25. He assured that the datesheet would be formulated taking into account the number of students registered for CUET-UG and their geographical distribution.
Application Portal and Process
The NTA launched the CUET UG 2024 online application portal on February 27. Students appearing for the Class 12 board examinations can apply for the Common University Entrance Test 2024 for various undergraduate courses through the official online portal at exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG.
Jagadesh explained that the datesheet for CUET-UG between May 15 and 31 would be determined based on the number of applicants and their distribution across different regions, considering the overlapping election dates.
Context of Lok Sabha Elections
This announcement follows the recent schedule announcement by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The general election for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases starting April 19, with Phase I on April 19 and Phase VII on June 1.
CUET-UG: Facilitating Admissions to Central Universities
The Common University Entrance Test (Undergraduate), administered by the National Testing Agency, facilitates admissions into undergraduate programmes across central universities in India. It is one of the largest entrance exams in India, attracting over 10 lakh candidates annually.
