No Relief for Mehraj Malik as J&K and Ladakh High Court Sets January 29, 2026 as Next Hearing Date
MLA Doda East and Jammu and Kashmir Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) State President Mehraj Malik did not receive any relief on Saturday in his Public Safety Act (PSA) detention case, as the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court deferred the hearing and fixed January 29, 2026, as the next date.

Earlier in the day, counsel representing Mehraj Malik requested the court for an early hearing of the matter. However, the court declined the request, stating that the case would be taken up under the regular supplementary list.
Once the hearing commenced, the court asked Malik’s counsel whether the final arguments or representations had been submitted, to which the counsel responded accordingly.
The government side was represented by Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi and Additional Advocate General Monika Kohli. Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi presented arguments for nearly one and a half hours, submitting that there had been no improvement in the conduct of the MLA. He argued that Malik continued to exhibit behaviour detrimental to the administration and public order, and was allegedly involved in creating law-and-order situations in the area.

After hearing the submissions, the court fixed January 29, 2026, as the next date of hearing in the PSA detention case.
Mehraj Malik, the only Aam Aadmi Party MLA booked under the Public Safety Act in Jammu and Kashmir, is currently lodged in Kathua Jail. The repeated adjournments have raised concerns among his supporters.
Several users on social media have questioned the delay, terming it “Justice delayed is justice denied.” However, legal experts point out that judicial decisions often follow lengthy procedural processes before reaching a final conclusion.
