Nine Dead as Building Collapses Amid Floods in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, Rescue Operations Underway

At least nine people lost their lives after a three-storey building collapsed in Meerut’s Zakir Colony, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday. The collapse occurred amid ongoing heavy rains in the area, worsening the situation for rescue teams.
District Magistrate Deepak Meena confirmed the incident, stating that rescue operations are being conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
According to reports, 15 people were initially trapped under the debris. Out of these, 14 individuals have been rescued so far, but tragically, nine were confirmed dead. “14 people were initially trapped, out of which 3 were rescued earlier.
Five more have been rescued now, and the remaining are still trapped. NDRF and SDRF teams are working on rescuing them. Three of the eight rescued have already lost their lives. Our priority is to save the rest,” said Meena.
This disaster comes as Uttar Pradesh faces severe flooding, with 11 districts affected. According to the state government, 17 people have died due to the floods, and over 3,000 homes have been damaged.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office announced that a relief fund of ₹4 lakh has been provided to the families of the deceased. Additionally, compensation has been distributed to those who have lost livestock or homes in the ongoing natural disaster.
Rescue efforts continue as authorities struggle against adverse weather conditions.
