Night Curfew Imposed in Samba Border to Counter Infiltration and Secure Area: BSF Takes Control

A night curfew has been enforced along the International Border (IB) in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir to enhance the control of BSF troops over the area and thwart any potential illicit activities near the border, as per an official directive.

The decision aims to counter cross-border infiltration and the smuggling of weapons through drones, particularly in the challenging foggy weather conditions prevailing along the Indo-Pak border line. District Magistrate Abhishek Sharma issued the order on Sunday, outlining the restrictions on civilian movement within a one-kilometer strip from the IB in Samba district from 9 pm to 6 am.

The order, invoking Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, mandates that “No person or group of persons shall move in the area up to one kilometer along the International Border in district Samba from 2100 hours to 0600 hours during the night.”

This move comes following a meeting of the district-level standing committee, during which Border Security Force (BSF) authorities recommended the implementation of a nightly curfew along a one-kilometer strip from the IB. This measure is believed to enhance the efficiency of BSF duties.

The district administration justifies the regulation of civilian movement in border areas as a means to achieve better area control by BSF and thwart the malicious intentions of entities posing a threat to Indian security. In case of necessary movement during curfew hours, individuals are required to present their ID cards to BSF and police authorities, according to Sharma.

The order emphasizes that any violation will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Due to the impracticality of individually serving the order, it is issued ex-parte. The night curfew is effective immediately and will remain in force for two months from the issuance date, unless withdrawn or rescinded earlier.
