Nicaragua Takes Germany to ICJ Over Alleged Support for Israel During Gaza Conflict

Nicaragua has initiated legal action against Germany at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing the nation of providing financial and military aid to Israel during its conflict with Gaza.

The ICJ announced on Friday that Nicaragua has formally filed an “application instituting proceedings” and is seeking emergency measures against Germany.

The case alleges that Germany’s actions constitute violations of its obligations under the Genocide Convention and the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the laws of war, particularly concerning the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip.

Nicaragua asserts that Germany, by providing support to Israel, is either facilitating or failing to prevent the commission of genocide.

The German Foreign Ministry has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter. Typically, the ICJ schedules a hearing on requested emergency measures within weeks of a case being filed.

The legal proceedings intensify the international legal scrutiny surrounding the conflict and reflect Nicaragua’s efforts to hold Germany accountable for its alleged role in the events.
