NIA Conducts Raids in 5 States in Terrorist-Gangster Nexus Probe
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated searches at 30 locations across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chandigarh as part of its ongoing investigation into the terrorist-gangster nexus case. Multiple NIA teams, collaborating with state police forces, executed the raids based on specific inputs gathered during previous interrogations in the case. This operation aims to unravel connections between terrorists and organized crime syndicates, disrupting their networks and seizing properties derived from the ‘proceeds of terrorism.’
Wide-ranging Operation Against Organized Crime
The NIA’s extensive operation is a significant step in addressing the nexus between terrorists and gangsters involved in various criminal activities, including murders, extortions, and terror conspiracies. The agency’s investigations have revealed the spread of mafia-style criminal networks orchestrated by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and associates across several states. NIA’s efforts involve targeting and dismantling these networks, with a focus on disrupting their support infrastructure and seizing properties linked to terrorism.
International Connections and Strategies
The NIA has uncovered links between these terror conspiracies and masterminds abroad, including in Pakistan and Canada, as well as leaders of organized terror syndicates operating from prisons within India. In recent months, the agency has adopted targeted strategies to disrupt and dismantle such networks. The operations involve property attachment and seizure under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, marking a concerted effort to curb the influence and activities of these interconnected criminal entities.
