Nearly One-Third of Kerala’s Vehicles Remain Uninsured, Poses Significant Risks, Says State Transport Commissioner
The Transport Commissioner of Kerala, S Sreejith, revealed that approximately 32% of vehicles in the state are presently uninsured, raising substantial concerns for public safety.
He highlighted the critical need to ensure comprehensive insurance coverage for all vehicles to mitigate risks and safeguard lives.
Mr. Sreejith made these remarks during a Women’s Motorcycle Rally organized as part of an insurance awareness campaign initiated by general insurer Magma HDI in Thiruvananthapuram, as mandated by the IRDAI.
Quoted in a release, Mr. Sreejith emphasized the Motor Vehicle Department’s concerted efforts to address the concerning statistic, stating, “With a significant percentage of vehicles on Kerala roads currently uninsured, we are committed to achieving complete insurance coverage to enhance road safety.”
Stressing the importance of insurance, he advocated for broader awareness among people, not just for vehicles but also for their own well-being and assets.
Magma HDI underscored low insurance awareness as a primary factor contributing to the state’s low insurance penetration levels.
Amit Bhandari, the company’s Chief Technical Officer, highlighted the Women’s Motorcycle Rally as a unique initiative combining empowerment and education, aiming to raise awareness about insurance coverage.
