Srinagar—The Centre has deployed nearly 300 companies of paramilitary forces across the Kashmir Valley to ensure security during the upcoming assembly elections, officials reported on Tuesday.

The forces have been stationed in various districts, including Srinagar, Handwara, Ganderbal, Budgam, Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Awantipora, and Kulgam.

According to the officials, a total of 298 companies from various paramilitary groups—Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)—have been deployed. This large-scale security presence is aimed at ensuring the smooth and safe conduct of the assembly polls.

Among the districts, Srinagar has received the highest number of deployed companies, with 55 units assigned to the area. Anantnag follows with 50 companies, while Kulgam has been allocated 31.

The districts of Budgam, Pulwama, and Awantipora each have 24 companies stationed, followed by Shopian with 22, Kupwara with 20, and Baramulla with 17. Handwara has received 15 companies, Bandipora 13, and Ganderbal 3.

The notification for the first phase of the three-phased elections was issued earlier on Tuesday. The voting process will begin on September 18, with the second phase scheduled for September 25, and the final phase on October 1.

This comprehensive deployment underscores the importance placed on maintaining order and security throughout the election process in the region.
