NBC Sports Taps Grass Valley Technology for Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics Coverage

NBC Sports has selected Grass Valley to supply key broadcast technologies for its production of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics, aiming to deliver high-quality live coverage across television, streaming, and digital platforms.

The Winter Olympics will run from February 6 to 22, followed by the Paralympics from March 6 to 15. With Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo sharing the same time zone as Paris, NBCUniversal plans a programming strategy similar to its widely praised coverage of the Paris 2024 Summer Games.

That approach includes live daytime coverage of major events on NBC, full live streaming of the Games on Peacock, and an enhanced primetime show, Primetime in Milan, spotlighting top competitions, athletes, and storylines. Viewers can also expect comprehensive coverage across cable and digital platforms, along with the return of popular Peacock features such as Gold Zone and Multiview.

The Opening Ceremony, set to take place at San Siro Stadium in Milan on Friday, February 6, will air live on both NBC and Peacock.

As part of the production setup, NBC Sports will deploy Grass Valley’s signal conversion, routing, and orchestration technologies on-site in Italy, as well as at its facilities in Stamford, Connecticut, and at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York. The infrastructure is designed to ensure seamless transmission of live content from Olympic venues to U.S. audiences.

Grass Valley’s tools—including its Alchemist frame rate conversion system, Orbit routing platform, and AMPP OS orchestration software—will support the scale and complexity of NBC Sports’ Olympic operations.

“Grass Valley has worked with NBC Sports for more than two decades, assisting our production efforts at previous Olympic Games and major international sporting events around the world,” said Tim Canary, Senior Vice President of Engineering at NBC Sports. “Their technology and engineering support are critical to delivering the quality and reliability viewers expect from NBC Olympics coverage.”

Grass Valley CEO Jon Wilson said the partnership reflects a shared focus on performance and innovation. “We’re honored to extend our long-standing relationship with NBC Sports for Milan Cortina 2026. By combining Alchemist, Orbit, and AMPP OS with our infrastructure products and on-site expertise, we’re helping NBC Sports deliver consistent, high-quality coverage across every screen.”

The 2026 Games will mark NBCUniversal’s 20th Olympic presentation and its 13th consecutive overall. The company holds exclusive U.S. media rights to all Olympic Games through 2036, including Milan Cortina (2026), Los Angeles (2028), the French Alps (2030), Brisbane (2032), Utah (2034), and the 2036 Games, with the host city yet to be announced.

NBC Sports, the sports division of NBCUniversal, produces and distributes live events, studio programming, and original content across NBC, Peacock, and multiple digital platforms. Its portfolio includes coverage of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the NFL, NBA, MLB, Premier League, and other major global sports properties.

Grass Valley, headquartered in Montreal, provides media production and delivery solutions to more than 90 percent of the world’s leading media organizations. Backed by Black Dragon Capital, the company has over six decades of experience in live content creation and continues to focus on scalable, flexible technologies for modern broadcast workflows.
