MNS Chief Raj Thackeray Issues Stern Warning Over Toll Charges: Raj Thackeray Takes a Stand on Toll Booths
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray delivered a stern warning to the state government, stating that his party workers would set fire to toll booths across the state if they face opposition in their efforts to exempt small vehicles from paying toll charges.
Allegations Against Toll Booths as a Source of Income for Politicians
Speaking to reporters, Thackeray alleged that toll booths have become a means of livelihood for politicians in the state. He expressed skepticism about the government’s promises and questioned why previous administrations, despite their assurances, failed to make Maharashtra toll-free.
Thackeray’s statement was in response to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s recent declaration that small vehicles are exempt from toll charges.
Seeking Dialogue with the Chief Minister
Raj Thackeray also revealed that he has requested a meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the coming days to discuss the matter further. He emphasized that the MNS workers would gather at toll booths to ensure that four, three, and two-wheelers are not subjected to toll charges.
A Dire Warning: “We Will Set It Ablaze”
However, Thackeray did not mince words when he stated, “If we are stopped, we will set it ablaze.” His strong words reflect the party’s determination to address the toll issue and its potential consequences.
Questions Over Toll Collection Contracts
Thackeray raised concerns about the management of funds collected at toll booths and questioned why the same companies repeatedly receive contracts for toll collection. He implied that the lack of transparency in this process contributes to the persistence of toll booths and hinders the development of quality road infrastructure.
The MNS chief’s stance on toll charges highlights the ongoing debate surrounding toll booths and their impact on commuters and regional politics in Maharashtra.
