Microblogging-Platform X Faces Widespread Outage, Prompting Users to Flock to Facebook
Microblogging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, encountered a technical glitch at approximately 11 am on Thursday morning.
During the incident, both the website and the mobile application displayed the message ‘Welcome to your timeline’ instead of the usual stream of tweets. The platform experienced a widespread outage, rendering it inaccessible for users.
Downdetector received over 70,000 reports of users unable to access the platform, and as of now, there is no information available regarding the cause of this issue.
In response to the outage, numerous users turned to Facebook to express their concerns. Samuel Oseremen Imoisili posted, “Please, who uses X/Twitter? It seems the app is not working. Can someone help me confirm?” Another Facebook user, Tony Thee Goon, shared a meme along with the message, “My fellow Twitter users and I are returning to Facebook since our app is down.”
This is not the first instance of X facing technical difficulties. The platform, owned by Elon Musk, previously experienced downtime in both March and July of this year. In July, Downdetector reported over 13,000 instances of X being down in the US and the UK. Users encountered the message, “Sorry, you are rate limited. Please wait a few moments, then try again.”
Similarly, on March 6, the platform was unavailable for several hours. Users reported difficulties in using it normally and experienced issues accessing links, images, and videos. This outage affected thousands of users, with reports from certain regions indicating that the website was slower than usual.
