MeT Forecasts Rain in Kashmir-Valley, Light Snowfall in Gulmarg and Pir Panchal
On Wednesday afternoon, light snowfall graced the upper regions of Gulmarg and Pir Panchal, including the famed Sinthan Top. The overall weather across the Valley remained predominantly cloudy, with the Meteorological Department forecasting light to moderate rainfall in various areas on Thursday.
Throughout the day in most Valley locations, the weather maintained a cloud-covered demeanor, occasionally giving way to sunshine in the afternoon. Some elevated areas, including the renowned Sinthan Top ski resort and other regions of Pir Panchal, witnessed light snowfall late in the afternoon on Wednesday.
Mughal Road Closed After Fresh Snowfall: Official Confirmation
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, the Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), highlighted the likelihood of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in multiple places. Moreover, there is an anticipation of light snowfall in the middle and higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on the following day.
While ruling out a substantial wet spell, Ahmad indicated that the weather would primarily be cloudy from December 1 to December 8. He also issued a caution regarding potential temporary disruptions in surface transportation over hilly areas, especially crucial passes like Zojila, Sinthan Pass, and Mughal Road, from the evening of the current day to the forenoon of December 1.Despite two days of improvement, the night temperature in Kashmir experienced a drop again.
According to MeT data, Srinagar and Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 0.8 degrees Celsius. In Pahalgam and Gulmarg, the mercury settled below freezing at minus 1.5 and 1.8 degrees Celsius, respectively. Kupwara and Kokernag recorded temperatures of 1.3 and 2.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
