Mayawati Urges OBC Census and Addresses Reservation Concerns
BSP chief Mayawati has once again called for a comprehensive census or survey of Other Backward Castes (OBCs) in Uttar Pradesh and at the national level. In a statement issued by the BSP, Mayawati emphasized the importance of this initiative and expressed her concerns about anti-reservation sentiments.
Demand for OBC Census
Mayawati stated, “The party once again demands that census/survey of OBC (Other Backward Castes) in UP and at the national level be conducted. The anti-reservationists who deny this are the same casteist-minded people who continuously conspire to make the reservation of SC and ST categories inactive and ineffective and do not even fill the backlog of their reservation.”
She went on to highlight the consequences of this situation, saying, “Due to this reason, there is no role of the people of the ‘bahujan’ community in policy framing. It is necessary to change this extremely saddening and worrisome situation.”
Lack of Trust in Casteist Approaches
Expressing skepticism about relying on casteist, communal, and narrow-minded individuals for bringing about change, Mayawati questioned, “But how can the destiny of the ‘bahujan’ community be formed and improved by relying on casteist, communal, and narrow-minded people for such a change? It is not possible to trust them anymore,” the BSP chief said.
Tribute to Party Founder and Election Dynamics
On the occasion of party founder Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary, Mayawati paid her respects, highlighting his dedication to liberating the ‘bahujan samaj’ from slavery and empowering its members to become self-reliant. She also pointed out the current political landscape, noting that casteist and anti-reservation parties, including the BJP and the Congress, are vying to position themselves as champions of the OBC community in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Mayawati emphasized the enduring struggle of Kanshi Ram for the welfare and interests of Dalits, tribals, OBCs, and religious minorities within the ‘bahujan’ community, emphasizing their constitutional rights. She acknowledged the challenges the BSP movement faces from various forces and stressed the importance of countering them through the principles envisioned by Kanshi Ram.
In conclusion, Mayawati called upon the people to make the promise “Maanyavar Shri Kanshi Ram jee, aapkaa mission adhuraa, BSP karegi pooraa’ (Kanshi Ram jee, your unfulfilled mission will be fulfilled by the BSP) successful in the elections, reaffirming her commitment to the cause initiated by the party’s founder.
