An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale occurred in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS) on Monday.
The seismic activity was recorded at 7:06:19 Indian Standard Time (IST), with the epicenter located at latitude 9.97 and longitude 93.54, at a depth of 11 km.
The NCS shared the information via a post on ‘X’, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, Occurred on 20-01-2024, 07:06:19 IST, Lat: 9.97 & Long: 93.54, Depth: 11 Km, Location: Andaman and Nicobar island.”
Continued Seismic Activity in the Region
This recent event follows an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 that occurred on January 10 in the Andaman Islands. The tremors were felt at around 7:53 am, with the epicenter situated at latitude 12.66 and longitude 93.02, at a depth of 10 km, according to NCS data. The region continues to experience seismic activity, emphasizing the importance of ongoing monitoring and preparedness.
