Lyme Disease Case Reported in Kerala
A 56-year-old man from Koovapady, Ernakulam district, Kerala, has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, confirmed by Dr. Jilse George, a Senior Physician at Lisie Hospital.
Diagnosis and Treatment
The patient, initially presenting with high-grade fever and other symptoms, was referred to Lisie Hospital on December 6, 2023. Tests at the Bengaluru unit of the National Institute of Virology confirmed Lyme disease. After receiving treatment, the patient showed improvement and was discharged on December 26.
Raising Awareness on Lyme Disease
Lyme disease, caused by Borrelia bacteria transmitted by insects, affects the nervous system and can be fatal if left untreated. Timely detection and treatment are crucial for recovery.
