LS Polls 2024: Ghulam Nabi Azad to contest from Anantnag-Rajouri seat
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, recently departed from the Congress, will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency, announced Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) leader Taj Mohiuddin.
Mohiuddin stressed the uniqueness of the constituency, emphasizing that Azad’s acceptability spans both Kashmir and Jammu regions. The decision, reached in a core committee meeting, reflects Azad’s perceived ability to navigate the diverse political landscape of the constituency.
Asserting the party’s clear agenda, Mohiuddin highlighted the DPAP’s commitment to reinstating Jammu and Kashmir as a state and prioritizing local interests in land ownership and employment opportunities. Azad’s candidacy marks a significant move for DPAP, as he re-enters the electoral fray after his defeat in the 2014 General Elections from the Udhampur seat.
