Lok Sabha Ethics Committee Summons Nishikant Dubey and Jai Anand Dehadrai

The Lok Sabha ethics committee has taken a significant step by summoning BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and advocate Jai Anand Dehadrai for a hearing scheduled on October 26. This development is related to the “cash for query” allegations they made against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra.

Allegations of “Cash for Query” Rock Parliamentary Ethics

The hearing announcement comes shortly after Mr. Dubey’s complaint against Ms. Moitra was forwarded to the ethics committee. Mr. Dubey has alleged that Ms. Moitra “took bribes to ask questions” in Parliament on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani, with the aim of targeting the Adani group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further accuses Ms. Moitra of breach of parliamentary privilege, contempt of the House, and criminal conspiracy in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

    Clash of Allegations and Denials

Mr. Dubey’s letter to the Speaker states that he received a letter from Mr. Dehadrai, sharing “irrefutable evidence of bribes” allegedly exchanged between Ms. Moitra and business tycoon Darshan. Ms. Moitra vehemently denies these allegations and expresses her readiness for any inquiry.

The Hiranandani Group, which was indirectly implicated in the allegations, has distanced itself and denounced the claims. They emphasize their commitment to business rather than politics and affirm their collaboration with the government in the interest of the nation.

Adani Group’s Response and Ongoing Controversy

Mr. Dubey insinuates that Ms. Moitra’s questions were directed at furthering the Hiranandani Group’s interests, especially after losing energy and infrastructure contracts to the Adani Group.

The Adani Group, in response, suggests that these allegations reveal ongoing efforts by some groups and individuals to damage their reputation, goodwill, and market standing. They emphasize that such schemes to besmirch the group’s name and their Chairman, Gautam Adani, have been in place since 2018.

This developing controversy showcases the intersection of politics, business interests, and ethics within the Indian parliamentary landscape.
