LG-Sinha Urges Retired Forces in Anti-Terror Efforts, Vows Aid for Fallen Heroes’ Families
Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, emphasized the crucial role of retired soldiers, officers, and policemen in the ongoing battle against terrorism, asserting that while terrorism was on the decline, efforts were being made to revive it. Sinha also announced the allocation of land in Kashmir and Jammu for the establishment of Sainik Colonies, aimed at providing accommodation for the families of fallen heroes.
During an event in Jammu, where he engaged with veterans, veer Naris, and Next of Kin (NoKs) of deceased soldiers, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted that the region had witnessed a significant influx of tourists in the past two years. “A total of 4 Crore tourists visited the UT, with 1.88 Crore in 2022 and 2.12 Crore in 2023. Despite a peaceful atmosphere in J&K, our adversaries are unwilling to accept this tranquility and persist in their attempts to instigate terrorism,” Sinha stated.
Emphasizing that terrorism in J&K was in its twilight, Sinha expressed concern about the ongoing efforts by the adversary to reignite it. “In a recent security review meeting, I advocated for the inclusion of ex-servicemen, including officers, soldiers, and policemen, in the decisive fight against terrorism,” he disclosed.
Sinha criticized the existing ex-gratia amount of Rs 25 lakh for the families of fallen soldiers, deeming it insufficient. “I am committed to raising this amount within the current year,” he affirmed. Additionally, he announced that the J&K administration would allocate land for the construction of Sainik Colonies in both Kashmir and Jammu this year, dedicated to the families and Next of Kin of fallen heroes.
