LG-Sinha Launches Chhau-Parv in Srinagar: A Celebration of Culture and Folk Traditions

Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the ‘Chhau Parv,’ a traditional dance form hailing from West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand, at Tagore Hall in Srinagar on Tuesday.

During his address, the Lt Governor commended the collaborative efforts of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, the country’s premier body for performing arts, and the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, in organizing a three-day festival, workshop, and seminar on Chhau Dances and folk dances of J&K. The initiative aims to preserve and promote cultural diversity.

In ancient times, Chhau served a dual purpose as both a war dance and an art form meant for spiritual elevation. The Chhau Parv seeks to raise awareness about the aesthetic allure of this cultural tradition, nurture budding talents, and fortify the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat,’ the Lt Governor emphasized.During the inaugural ceremony, the Lt Governor paid homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and acknowledged the substantial contributions of tribal icons to the country’s freedom struggle.

Additionally, he underscored the endeavors of the Union Territory Administration, led by Prime Minister Modi, to revitalize the rich intangible heritage and folk culture of Jammu and Kashmir.
